The USS Theodore Roosevelt departed San Diego for a planned deployment across the Pacific that is expected to ultimately support operations in the Middle East. The carrier will deploy with Carrier Air Wing 11 as the Navy continues repositioning carrier strike groups amid ongoing regional security demands.
Zelensky Says North Korea Preparing 10,000 More Troops for Russia:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said more than 8,000 North Korean troops are currently in Russia and preparations are underway to deploy another 10,000. He said the additional personnel are being selected for training before being sent to Russia.
Ukraine Reports Territorial Gains and Captures Russian Troops:
Ukraine’s military said it pushed Russian forces back along a key portion of the eastern front and captured more than 250 prisoners during an operation in the Donetsk region. Ukrainian Gen. Andrii Biletskyi described the gains as part of Operation Vivaldi, an effort designed to regain battlefield initiative.
Pentagon Outlines Greater European Role in NATO Defense:
Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby told lawmakers that NATO allies support a model in which European nations assume greater responsibility for their conventional defense. The Pentagon is conducting a six-month review of U.S. troop levels in Europe while working with allies on increasing their own defense capabilities.

U.S. Africa Command is pursuing artificial intelligence, unmanned systems, commercial data, and sensor technologies as it seeks to operate with a smaller physical troop presence across Africa.
